Patch 0.1.7 - Floppy Tentacles
Cultists, this update is our final build for our university submission. This does not mark the end of our development on the project, but this is where we say we've achieved the MVP (minimum viable product) stage for Uncle Lovecraft's Fun Time Murder Hole. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. The next time we push an update, it will most likely be our first public release build. We hope you've enjoyed our game over the past 6 weeks as much as we've enjoyed making it for you. There's nothing more gratifying than watching people play and have fun doing something we've created. With that said, lets move forwards with the patch notes:
What's New:
- Tentacles! They will now sprout in the level once a sacrifice has been made, slamming down on villagers as they run past them.
- We finally have them. They might be lazy, and they might just tip over like that friend who can't hold their liquor, but hey, they're tentacles!
- New particle effects, new light sources and a few new props.
- New textures for the player character.
- New animations for casting spells.
- Several new sounds.
General Changes:
- Gust of Wind's charge-up logic has been redone and re-balanced. You should now have better control and more consistent results based on how much or how little you've charged it.
- Pit has been reverted to having a strong suction effect when you toss villagers over it. A sound effect has been added to go along with the effect as well.
- Visuals for all fire effects have been updated to have a more purplish hue. We believe this fits better with our vision for a corrupted hellfire effect. Please let us know more about this through your feedback.
- Occlusion masking has been re-implemented. You can once again see through houses or trees that might obfuscate your view of the player character.
- Some more lighting improvements in the Forest and Haven levels.
- HUD now correctly stops displaying once a level has been completed, and no longer overlaps with end-of-level statistics screen elements.
Known Issues: Still present and to be addressed in future patches.
- The first tutorial prompt in the game has accidentally been removed. This will be re-added in the next update.
- Some tentacles have questionable placement and might crop through other assets in the game. We'll be reworking their position at a later date.
- The Dark Lord is simply accepting all sacrifices, even dead ones. The counters for villagers left, sacrifices made and end-of-level statistics can be a bit iffy as a result. We're currently looking into what might be causing this.
- The Dark Lord can be merciful and benevolent too, and he's sometimes not as picky about his food...
- Villagers will occasionally get up after being knocked down in some way and change their character model.
- People are free to be whoever they want to be in our game. Don't call this a bug!
- Movement AI for villagers can get bugged, making them stand idly by. If this happens at a spawn point, it results in a chain effect where newly spawned villagers remain idle and grouped up at the spawn point.
Once again, thank you for all your feedback and your support. We couldn't have made this game how it is without your help!
